    Oxford City Council is keeping security under careful review as the election nears.

    In a statement, it said it's ready for a high turnout of voters for the general election on Thursday.

    Meanwhile, Cherwell District Council says it is working with the local police service to ensure the security and intergrity of the polls.

  7. Cowes 'floating bridge': Chain ferry service 'to resume on Wednesday'published at 17:43 BST 5 June 2017

    Isle of Wight's troubled new floating bridge will return to service on Wednesday, the council has confirmed.

    The chain ferry service at Cowes was suspended after cars scraped their bumpers while disembarking and stranded passengers waded through water when it broke down on its first weekend in operation.

    It has now been cleared for use by the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) and will reopen at 05:00 BST on Wednesday.

    Campaigners have called for businesses to be compensated for their losses during the suspension of the bridge.

  8. Police 'still dealing with' M3 crashpublished at 17:16 BST 5 June 2017

    Police are continuing work to clear an accident on the M3.

    The serious road traffic collision happened on the northbound carriageway this morning and involved three lorries and a car. Two lanes between junctions 10 and 9 northbound are closed and will remain closed "for some time" according to Hampshire Constabulary.

    A spokesperson said: "Motorists are being urged to avoid the area and to make alternative travel arrangements. Thank you for your patience while we deal with this incident."

    Highways England said they were dealing with a fuel spill and the recovery was ongoing.

    "In light of these enhanced security measures and at the request of Live Nation, the event organisers, fans will not be able to camp outside St Mary’s Stadium ahead of the concert."

    Crime scene in Jourdain Road

    A sixth person has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following a fight in Oxford.

    The brawl broke out at about 23:00 BST on Thursday in the Jourdain Road area of Blackbird Leys.

    Police have named Christopher Lemonius, 27, as as the man who was found at the scene with serious injuries, and who later died in hospital.

    A 24-year-old man from Oxford was arrested on Sunday night on suspicion of murder.

    Three men and a teenager were arrested on Saturday, and another man was taken into held on Sunday morning. All the suspects are from Oxford and remain in custody.

    Two people have been taken to hospital following this morning's crash on the M3, South Central Ambulance Service (SCAS) has said.

    The service said it was called at 10:27 BST to a collision involving three lorries and a car on the northbound carriageway between junctions 9 and 10 near Winchester.

    One patient is reported to be seriously injured and the other has minor injuries.

    A book of condolence will be opened at Reading Borough Council tomorrow following Saturday's terrorist attack in London.

    The council is also observing tomorrow's national one-minute silence at the civic offices in Bridge Street.
