It'll be dry this evening with clear spells which will give a chilly start to the night as temperatures begin to fall away. 

However, thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain, accompanied by strengthening winds, will spread in from the west after midnight, which will introduce milder conditions. Minimum temperature: 2C (36F).

Guiseley have called events in the draw against Braintree "regrettable", following an equaliser which was scored after the Essex side had kicked the ball out of play for an injured player.

The Guisely manager initially stood by his players but this afternoon, chairman Phil Rogerson released a statement, external: "Having had time to sleep (or not) on the incident on Saturday myself, Mark and the Club find the situation most regrettable and not in line with the general ethos of Guiseley AFC."

It all started following a Russian television report that used the north Essex seaside town to highlight the worse places in Britain.

Ivor wrote, external: "I like Jaywick. Holidayed there many times in the 60s and 70s. Even had a weekend there recently. Still some lovely people living there."

Southend United captain John White is hoping to regain his place back in the side tomorrow.

The defender hasn't played for two months because of hamstring and calf injuries. He's hoping to "get the nod" for tomorrow's League One match against Crewe.

"I'm waiting for my chance to push myself back into the team," White told BBC Essex Sport. 

A fellow running friend of Mike Freeman who died while taking part in the Malta marathon yesterday says he's "devastated".

It's understood the 55-year-old West Ham fan collapsed about one mile from the finish line. Des Brooks (pictured), last saw him at a park run and says his death is a complete shock.

"I'm devastated, every time I saw him there was a smile on his face and he was always chatty," Mr Brooks said. 

Last night 700 volunteers joined emergency services in a major security training exercise at Lakeside shopping centre in Thurrock.

The drill was to test crews responding to a large incident, part of ongoing national emergency planning.

Ch Insp Ed Well, from Essex Police, said: "Our job is to prepare for an armed response to incidents that we are working tirelessly to prevent from happening, but I urge the public to be alert not alarmed."

A man who was found dead inside a burned car in Pitsea has been named locally as Vilson Meshi.

The 30-year-old was discovered in a grey Audi A4 in Pincey Mead on Saturday afternoon. A post-mortem examination revealed he died from smoke inhalation. 

Essex Police is continuing its investigation. No arrests have been made.

Braintree Town manager, Danny Cowley, says he's disappointed a controversial equaliser against his side was allowed to stand at the weekend.

The Iron knocked the ball out of play so an injured player could receive treatment, however when the game resumed, Guiseley's Oliver Norburn lobbed the keeper from 40 yards to level the scores. 

Security staff were needed to separate the players and management of both sides, but the goal was allowed to stand. Cowley said it was "the worst thing I've seen on a football pitch". 

A man who was found inside a burned-out car in Pitsea died from smoke inhalation a post-mortem examination has found.

Essex Police was called to Pincey Mead at about 17:00 on Saturday and found a 30-year-old's body inside a grey Audi A4. 

Speaking from the crime scene earlier, Det Ch Insp Stephen Jennings said the fire came from "inside the vehicle" and inquires are ongoing.

A woman was hospitalised after she was hit by a car in Chelmsford last week, police say.

The 52-year-old was taken to hospital following the incident in Longmead Avenue at about 18:05 last Monday. She has since been discharged. 

Essex Police is now looking to trace the driver of a small red hatchback who stopped, but left before leaving his details.
