    Birdwatchers are gathering on the cliffs overlooking Godrevy in Cornwall in the hope of seeing a rare bird usually only found in Mexico and the Carribean.

    The brown booby was first seen on Monday near St Ives and has attracted twitchers from around the country to the area.

    Cornwall Bird Watching & Preservation Society (CBWPS) said it was believed to be the first sighting in the UK.

  4. Cornish Grenfell Street adopts the green heart emblempublished at 16:00 BST 30 August 2019

    A 250-year-old Cornish street is believed to be the first in the country to have a road sign installed featuring the green Grenfell heart emblem.

    Grenfell Street in Mousehole, Cornwall, has had the new sign installed by the Cornwall Hugs Grenfell campaign.

    The charity was launched in the aftermath of the Grenfell Tower disaster in London, which saw 72 people die when a blaze destroyed the block of flats in 2017.

    Since then more than 350 Grenfell Tower survivors, the bereaved, close neighbours or firefighters have gone on holiday to Cornwall through the project.

    On Thursday night hundreds of people gathered in the fishing village of Mousehole to see the new street sign unveiled.

    A Cornwall Council spokeswoman said: "Thursday night saw a wonderful unveiling of the new Grenfell Street sign in Mousehole.

    "The 250-year-old street has always been called Grenfell Street but had no sign.

    "The sign was unveiled as a celebration of the solidarity and special relationship between our communities," she added.

    Owners Coastline Housing say the £3m building at the old South Crofty tin mine will help 1,000 people a year.

    It replaces two buildings in Camborne, combining day and night services for the first time in the county.

    Other sites were investigated over the last 10 years but none were suitable.

    A former Devon County Council leader accused of sexually assaulting three different women will go on trial in 2020.

    Brian Greenslade, 71, is alleged to have indecently assaulted two women between 1 January 1994 and 30 December 1995.

    He is also accused of sexually assaulting a third woman between 1 June 2005 and 30 January 2006.

    He pleaded not guilty when he appeared at Exeter Crown Court.

    Protesters have gathered in Tavistock to campaign against the decision to suspend Parliament.

    Prime Minister Boris Johnson's move has been criticised by many who believe it is a way to avoid MPs trying to block the UK leaving the European Union without a deal on 31 October.

    Campaigners have been outside Conservative MP Geoffrey Cox's constituency offices in Tavistock.

    He is yet to comment on the protest.

    A former leader of Devon County Council who is accused of three counts of sexual assault will face trial next year.

    A judge has confirmed Brian Greenslade will go on trial at Exeter Crown Court on 16 March 2020.

    He has denied the charges.

    Police seized a large quantity of suspected cannabis from a Saltash property on Thursday.

    A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs with intent to supply and possession of Class A and Class B drugs. He has been released under investigation.

    A Royal Navy paramedic came to the aid of injured drivers after a crash on the A38 this morning.

    Traffic is still slow on both carriageways near Rattery after a pick-up crashed through the central reservation, colliding with a car, police said.

    One lane on each carriageway has been blocked off by emergency services.

    Buckfastleigh fire crews told on Facebook, external how the passing paramadic provided "excellent medical care" after the crash before ambulance crews arrived.

    One injured person was freed from their vehicle and the other was in shock, said the fire crews.

    Passengers hoping to travel to or from the Isles of Scilly today on the Scillonian ferry have been left disappointed for the third day following the cancellation of the scheduled sailings.

    The ferry suffered an engine failure off Gwennap Head on Wednesday morning and had to be escorted back to Penzance by the Sennen lifeboat.

    The Isles of Scilly Steamship Company has apologised, but says sailings have been cancelled to allow time for the repairs to be carried out.

    The firm said it would be in touch with passengers on alternative travel or to provide refunds.
