    A device found on board a boat in Falmouth harbour is no longer being treated as suspicious, according to Falmouth Harbour Commissioners.

    Police received reports of a "suspicious device" at 09:50 and Royal Navy bomb disposal experts were called to the scene.

    The device has been examined and is found to be no longer suspicious and the cordon has been lifted. It was a genuine call made in good faith, and we followed the correct procedures, but it is no longer deemed to be a risk."

    A popular cafe and golf course in Exmouth could be re-opened soon after new tenants were found.

    Phear Park Golf and Cafe was closed when its lease was surrendered over the winter.

    Councillors had hoped it would be re-opened by Easter but it remains closed.

    East Devon District Council said it had found a new tenant and terms of the lease had been agreed, but the negotiations had not yet been finalised.

    Richard Cohen, the council's deputy chief executive, told councillors: "I hope that it will be open in the very near future."

    A "suspicious device" has been found on board a boat in Falmouth harbour.

    Bomb disposal experts are on the scene.

    Police say they were called at 09:50, and the Royal Navy Explosives Ordnance Disposal (EOD) are also there.

    Devon and Cornwall Police said: "The boat is out in the harbour and a 100m cordon is in place."Enquiries are ongoing.

    Lifeboat crews in the South West have spoken of their heartache at the loss of three French crew.

    A rescue boat has overturned in the Atlantic off the west coast of France leaving three crew dead, amid winds of up to 129 km/h (80 mph).

    They were part of a crew of seven who had gone to the aid of another boat which had got into difficulty as Storm Miguel struck the area.

    Port Isaac RNLI said on Facebook, external: "We are shocked and saddened to read this breaking news story coming from France.

    "Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this tragic time."

    The historic pier, which is home to the Mayflower Steps where the Pilgrim Fathers are said to have embarked for America, looks set to get a major makeover.

    New lighting and seating along with easier access for people with prams and wheel chairs is on the cards along with a new balcony in the plans by the city council.

    Councillor Leader Tudor Evans said: "For a small pier it has an incredibly important history - not just for the city of Plymouth but the world."

    A portico built in 1934 which commemorates the sailing of the Mayflower has significantly eroded due to the salty air and wind is also being dismantled ahead of conserve and repair work.

    Ann Widdecombe says she does not regret her comments about sexuality, which have led to some of her theatre appearances being cancelled.

    Venues in Altrincham in Greater Manchester, Devon and Surrey have axed tour dates of her show after she suggested science could "produce an answer" to being gay.

    Miss Widdecombe said her comments had been "distorted" on social media and that theatres refusing to host shows were "denying free speech".

    Her critics have accused her of waging an "anti-LGBT campaign".

    The Brexit Party MEP denied this and told the BBC:

    Bikers were caught riding at up to 116mph after a speeding clampdown by Devon and Cornwall Police.

    The operation on 22, 23 and 29 May and 1 June also caught bikers doing 99mph and 96mph on the 70mph-limited A30 and A38.

    Another biker was recorded doing 81mph in a 40mph zone of the A386, among a total of 500 speeding offences over the four-day action.

    PC Ralph Delbridge said the figures were "disappointing" because motorcyclists were "undoubtedly some of the most vulnerable road users".

    Pilot gig racing has become so popular in Cornwall that there's now a shortage of home grown wood to build the boats.

    So gig rowers in Cornwall are appealing to landowners to donate elm and oak if they're chopping trees down, especially elm which has been blighted by dutch elm disease.

    Shaun Sullivan, chairman of the Cornish Pilot Gig Association, said: "It needs to be a mature tree and the longer the better.

    "The boats are about 32ft long, about 10m, but the less joins they have to do the better so if they can get elm that's 10ft or 12ft or longer that's the kind of lengths that they want."

    A schoolgirl who helps homeless women with sanitary products has won an award from Prime Minister Theresa May for her work.

    Bimini Love, 17, from Newquay, launched Street Cramps , externalin 2017 to raise money towards providing sanitary products, clean underwear, heatpads and basic toiletries for every homeless woman in Cornwall.

    Street Cramps has since been launched in Oxford and Manchester, and Bimini has further raised awareness through TEDx talks, external and on BBC Three's Amazing Humans., external

    Now she has been chosen for Mrs May's daily Points of Light award.

    Mrs May said in a letter to her that Street Cramps "shows amazing initiative and innovation".

    Sarah Newton, Conservative MP for Truro, pictured with Bimini above, said she was "delighted" at the award for Bimini's "great work".

    Bimini said it was "amazing" to be chosen and she felt "very privileged to have been selected alongside so many other amazing people".

    Older farmers in Cornwall who are thinking of retiring but have no family to take on their business are being urged to give an opportunity to a younger farmer.

    It comes as latest government figures show the average age of a farmer is 60, external - with just 3% of farmers aged under 35.

    Matt Hosken, chairman of Cornwall Young Farmers, said: "If you are leaving your farm to anyone and your children aren't interested then find a young farmer, ask them if they're keen to join in partnership with you.

    "We need new ideas and fresh blood, otherwise farming will go by the wayside."

    A 28-year-old accused of murdering three elderly men is set to stand trial on 18 November.

    Alexander Lewis-Ranwell, of no fixed abode, is charged with the murders of twin brothers Dick and Roger Carter, 84, and Anthony Payne, 80. in Exeter, Devon.

    They were found dead at their homes on 11 and 12 February.

    Mr Lewis-Ranwell, who did not appear at the hearing at Exeter Crown Court, also faces two assault charges in Devon in February.
