A number of Conservative MPs have announced they will be backing Theresa May's Withdrawal Agreement in Tuesday's "meaningful vote", having previously rebelled.

But there was little public sign of the flood of switchers the Prime Minister would need to overturn the 230-vote majority against her plan in January.

West Cornwall MP Derek Thomas tweeted: "I will be voting for the deal tonight. I am reassured by changes to the backstop. "The priority for me is to ensure we leave the EU on March 29th. I also want to see an end to the uncertainty beginning to have a worrying impact on people and their business up and down the country."

Scott Mann of North Cornwall said: "I have decided to vote in favour of the deal despite my deep reservations and concerns about the backstop. I am disappointed that we have found ourselves in this position as a country, but there is now a real chance that if we do not take the deal Brexit could be lost."

In a video on his Twitter feed, Plymouth Moor View MP Johnny Mercer said: "In my judgment, the best thing to do today is vote for the deal and try to get this process done."

Councillors say they have been "betrayed", after a government department backtracked over a £10m bid for the Axminster relief road.

East Devon District Council successfully bid for a £10m Homes England grant that would be used to help fund the delivery of the new relief road and associated homes, employment land and community facilities for the town.

But the council has now been told by Homes England that a new condition of the funding is that the money must be repaid by the development, turning it from a grant to a loan.

Cllr Ian Thomas, leader of the council, has said he is dismayed by the decision, and that they are seeking legal advice as to if they can challenge the news.

More than 3,000 drivers have been caught speeding since average speed cameras were installed on the A38 and the A380 at the Splatford Split near Exeter - that's nearly six a day.

The cameras were installed at four locations along a 4km stretch of the eastbound carriageway heading towards Exeter back in August 2017.

A Freedom of Information Request submitted to Devon and Cornwall Police by the Local Democracy Reporting Service asked for details on how many drivers have been caught speeding since the cameras were installed.

Since 4 August 2017 until 21 January 2019, when the FOI was submitted, 3,062 motorists were caught driving faster than the 70mph speed limit for cars and 60mph for light and heavy goods vehicles.

Eve Leatherland suffered fatal injuries "most commonly associated with a car crash".

An ancient artifact that was discovered in 1999 was partially made using gold from Cornwall.

The Sky Disc of Nebra is 3,600 year old Bronze-age astronomical disc, used to determine the seasons for sowing and harvesting in the Halle area of Saxony-Anhalt in Germany.

Gold nuggets from the Carnon valley near Truro were recently discovered at Caerhays Castle on the Roseland, and they have proved to match the type of gold used to decorate the disc.

Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club is being relocated after nearly 100 years at their Ottermouth home.

The move of the club to a new home on the northern edge of the town is required as part of a £9m scheme to help restore the River Otter and to help avoid a "catastrophic breach" of the failing 200-year-old sea defences.

Greg Evans, chairman of Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club, said: “Everyone in the area knows that for years we have faced problems with flooding at Ottermouth, so we would very much welcome a solution which would mean we could use our facilities year-round."

The Lower Otter Restoration Project, external is investigating the possibility of restoring the estuary to a more natural state, reducing the impact of climate change while creating new habitats for wildlife and improving water quality.

The preferred option for the project, led by landowner Clinton Devon Estates and the Environment Agency, would see the Big and Little Marsh floodplain restored.

Breaches would be created in the Little Bank, the Big Bank and the River Otter Embankment, allowing water to flow through.

It will mean the relocation of Budleigh Salterton Cricket Club, but if plans are approved, the club could be playing at their new home in time for the 2022 season.

Sixty new school places are being created in Plymouth for high functioning pupils with autism.

The government has approved an application by the city council to set up a new specialist school for children aged between seven and 16 with spectrum disorders.

The authority is now looking for a trust who will run it as councils are no longer allowed to open and operate new schools.

The fire ripped through a four-storey block in Seaton, Devon, in December last year.
