    A Cornish vicar is asking people to join the congregation at a funeral of a man who apparently died without family or friends.

    Terence Filer - who was 85 - died at St Martins House Care Home in Camborne and little is known about him apart from that he had previously lived in Newquay and came from Bristol before that.

    The service is due to be held at St Eunys Church in Redruth on Friday at 13:30 and Reverend Casper Bush is keen for people to go along...

    Exeter City Council has unveiled its vision for a "green bridge" over the River Exe.

    The plans would see one of the city's main routes converted into a green space for pedestrians and cyclists to promote "active travel across the river".

    The proposals were announced as part of a 20-year scheme to build thousands of houses, cut down on car usage and improve air quality in the city.

    The ideas are due to be discussed on Tuesday.

    One lane remains closed on the A38 westbound near Rattery between the A394 at Dartbridge and the A385 at Marley Head while vehicle recovery work takes place.

    Highways England said there is about 1.4 miles of slow-moving traffic.

    Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed one person was injured in the six-car crash.

    One person has sustained a minor injury after a six-car crash on the A38, police have said.

    Emergency services are currently at the scene on the A38 near Rattery.

    A closure remains in place on lane two, officers added.

    The author Rosamunde Pilcher died after a "short illness", her agent has confirmed.

    She passed away on Wednesday night.

    Born in Lelant, Cornwall in 1924, Mrs Pilcher wrote 28 novels in total - with many set in the county.

    However, she was probably best known for her 1987 novel, The Shell Seekers - which was nominated by the British public in 2003 as one of the top 100 novels in the BBC's Big Read.

    It sold more than 10 million copies and was adapted for television starring Vanessa Redgrave.

    Crews have managed to contain a roof fire at a commercial property in Hayle.

    St Ives Community Fire Station said they were sent to the scene - alongside three other crews - at Harvey's Towans at about 10:00.

    The cause of the fire is not known.

    The team added it was a "great stop by crews on scene to prevent escalation".

    The Cornish novelist, Rosamunde Pilcher has died at the age of 94.

    Born in Lelant on the north coast of the county, she began writing at the age of seven and published her first story when she was 19.

    She was a prolific writer of popular romantic fiction for many decades.

    A collection of about 15,000 snail shells held at the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter is being investigated by experts.

    They were given to the museum more than 100 years ago, but up until now very little has been known about them and their collector Juliana Linter.

    Visitors to North Devon this summer will be able to discover the area’s hidden wartime past through its coastal landscape.

    Thanks to an Arts Council National Lottery Project - secured by the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon - important World War Two locations, including sites used to prepare for the D-Day landings, will join a new coastal heritage trail linking the landscape with local museums’ wartime collections.

    Fifteen bronze plaques will mark significant World War Two sites along the coastline from Hartland to Mortehoe and an illustrated visitor guide will be produced.

    Plans to develop thousands of new homes in a garden village close to Cullompton will create extra traffic congestion say campaigners.

    The Campaign to Protect Rural England in Devon believes the new village near the M5 will add to existing traffic problems, on top of those created by the new town at Cranbrook.

    But Mid Devon District Council says it's confident there's demand for housing and has begun consulting local people about its plans.

    A large owl native to India has escaped from a Cornish sanctuary after high winds blew down the side of his aviary.

    Zig the Bengal eagle owl fled the Cornish Birds of Prey Centre, external near Wadebridge overnight on Wednesday and has not been seen since.

    His owners say they fear for his survival as he was rescued about eight years ago and is used to the shelter and food they provide.

    The birds are about 50-56 cm long and live in the wild in the west Himalayas, Pakistan, throughout India, Kashmir, Nepal, Assam and Burma.

    The EU will contribute £1.8m to restoring the Penzance Heliport which will offer flights between Penzance and the islands of St Mary’s and Tresco.

    The remainder of the £4.3m project will be funded by the Tresco Estate, the Dorrien-Smith family and others.

    Flights are expected to begin in spring 2020 and tickets will go on sale in summer 2019.

    Transport links between the mainland and the Isles of Scilly have long been the source of controversy with an ongoing row between Robert Dorrien-Smith from Penzance Heliport Ltd and Andrew May, chairman of the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group which also provides air and sea transport to the islands.

    Torbay's mayor will be challenged at a meeting later over his plans to make £7.5m of cuts to next year's budget.

    His own Conservative councillors are asking him to reconsider shrinking the budgets for roads and parks maintenance, seafront lights and coastal paths upkeep.

    The opposition Liberal Democrats are asking for more money to be put into the children's services budgets.

    Gordon Oliver is the Bay's mayor and he's hopeful for an agreement...
