A 52-year-old man has gone missing from Torquay, police have said.

Simon Keys was last seen in the town at about 06:50 and police are concerned for his welfare.

He is described as white, 6ft 3in (1.9m) tall, of medium build, with dark, straight hair with flecks of grey.

He's clean shaven and was last seen wearing a light coloured hooded top with full zip, a white T-shirt, blue jeans and carrying a light blue carrier bag.

Anyone who sees him is asked to not make him aware of police interest and to call 999 immediately.

Seventy years on from its creation, it’s not clear if the name of Plymouth Arts Centre will survive.

The decision to sell the organisation’s premises shows how a funding cut from Arts Council England threatened the organisation with extinction.

It was the Arts Council that had set it up in 1947, as one of just a handful of British arts centres created after World War Two.

Arts Centre staff will move to run a new and expanded cinema, at Plymouth College of Art, which has yet to be given a title.

The charity’s board will keep working under their existing banner, but the days of the organisation that discovered the Plymouth painter Beryl Cook in the 1970s appear to be behind it.

Meanwhile, Arts Council funding has gone into newer projects locally such as Ocean Studios and The Box.

A stag had to be sedated using a dart gun after it got its antlers trapped in fencing, a fire service has said.

Crews were called to the Bickleigh area at about 12:00.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were able to make the scene safe before a veterinary surgeon arrived.

The animal was sedated and released by crews.

The stag was checked over by the vet on site but it's not thought to have been injured.

The temporary walkway across Sutton Harbour lock is being closed - so work can begin to fit a new replacement bearing for the bridge.

The walkway was set up during the peak tourist season while repairs were progressed on a long-term solution to the main pedestrian footbridge.

Plymouth City Council said about 30,000 people crossed the temporary walkway during August and September, but the volume of people is "dropping all the time as it gets darker".

As a result the temporary walkway is being dismantled.

The pedestrian footbridge across Sutton Lock was fitted more than 20 years ago as part of the installation of the Sutton Harbour lock gates.

Their main function is to manage flood risk and allow marine traffic, such as fishing boats, to enter Sutton Harbour.

The bridge was closed to pedestrians after a failure of the bearing meant the turntable could not operate.

It's hoped the bridge will be fully operational before Easter 2019.

The crash on Crownhill Road, in Plymouth, happened at about 21:35 on Wednesday.

No-one was reported to be injured.

Officers said a 44-year-old man was found "a short time later" and investigations are ongoing.

Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage is asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police via 101.

One of Britain's longest-running arts centres - based in Devon - is having to be put up for sale.

Plymouth Arts Centre, which once hosted Beryl Cook's first exhibition, is closing its visual arts programme "for the time being" and moving its cinema into the city's art college.

It was one of seven arts centres set up around Britain after World War Two by the then new Arts Council.

The trustees say the decision to sell the historic Looe Street building is "difficult" but "unavoidable" after the Arts Council withdrew funding in April.

The cinema in the nearby College of Art will offer twice the number of seats, and be run by the existing Arts Centre team.

Trustees say the changes should help to create a sustainable future for the organisation.

Police want to identify a man, pictured, after an armed robbery in Redruth.

It happened at about 19:55 at Bargain Booze, Fore Street on Wednesday.

Officers said the man entered the shop with a weapon and demanded money from staff.

The victim handed over a "large quantity of cash" and the man left the shop, heading in the Higher Fore Street direction into Flowerpot car park.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police via 101.

A man has "serious" injuries after the car he was driving crashed into a tree, police have said.

It happened on the A373 at Cullompton at about 11:05.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

The road has been closed by the entrance to the Kingsmill Industrial Estate and is expected to remain shut for some time, officers added.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area.

Syphilis is on the rise in the South West, according to new figures from Public Health England.

It is now launching a campaign to raise awareness of the sexually transmitted infection (STI).

Last year, there were 274 cases in the region compared to 172 for the previous year which is a 59% increase.

Officials say not using a condom significantly increases the chances of contracting the disease which if left untreated can cause major health issues.
