Some towns in Devon are bucking the trend when it comes to house prices, show newly released figures.

Stats from the Zoopla property website, external show house prices in the South West have fallen by 2.5% since January - more than any other region.

But Honiton and Axminster (pictured below) make the national top 10 for the biggest increases in property value.

Truro’s Park and Ride will celebrate its 10-year anniversary next month by inviting customers to enjoy two days of free travel on the service, external.

There will be no charge to pay to park and use the buses over the weekend of 3 and 4 August.

More than a million passengers have used the service - run by Cornwall Council - since buses first began running between Langarth and the city centre in 2008.

Cornwall's Molly Caudery has been eliminated from the final of the pole vault at the World Under-20 Championships.

The 18-year-old fouled three times at 4.20m, 33cm below her personal best that she set earlier this year.

Caudery, who was the youngest member of England's athletics team at this year's Commonwealth Games, had been seen as one of the favourites for the title in Tampere in Finland.

It was her second disappointing performance this month, having finished fifth in the British Championships after posting a best mark of just 4.15m.

The defence case has started at the trial of three men following the robbery of a jewellery store in Truro.

Nearly £1m of jewellery and watches was taken from Micheal Spiers in a daylight raid on 10 January.

Andrius Buinevicius, 41, from Lithuania, denies conspiracy to commit robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He told the court that two previous trips to the UK in October 2017 were completed in the hope of securing work selling recycled clothing with his co-defendant, Gytis Inokaitis.

He said road trips to Truro were carried out in order to be shown locations that may be suitable for the business.

The trial resumes at Truro Crown Court on Monday.

Mr Inokaitis, 36, of Stuart Road in Plymouth, has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery.

Harijus Jackiaskis, 33, of Partington Lane in Manchester, denies assisting an offender.

On Wednesday, two other defendants changed their pleas and admitted possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

A half-empty Plymouth academy under threat of closure - after a damning Ofsted report found it inadequate in all areas - is to shut, it has confirmed.

Inspectors visited Plymouth Studio School in March and found students regularly missing lessons, poor leadership and poor exam results.

The school has been at half capacity with 155 pupils and was earmarked for closure less than three years after it opened.

Parents had formed a campaign group and called for it to stay open for at least another year. However, governors said parents had been notified on Thursday of "the final decision to close the school, and [15] staff have been informed directly" of Department for Education funding stopping at the end of August.

It added that all of the pupils had had the offer of new school places when the school closed, "with the majority having already transferred to their new schools".

Torquay United have signed French defender Jean-Yves Koué Niate.

The 25-year-old moves to Plainmoor having spent time at Solihull Moors, Oxford City, Ebbsfleet United, and Guiseley since mioving to England in 2016.

Before that, the centre-back spent time playing in his homeland and in Belgium.

“He’s a big, imposing character," said Gulls head coach Gary Owers.

"He’s 6ft 4in, muscular and athletic, as well having experience playing in the National League and National League South.

“I’m bringing him in to hopefully be a focal point of our defence.”

A disagreement between developers and Devon County Council is holding up the construction of a new road into Devon's newest town.

The Sherford Main Street Interim is planned to extend from Deep Lane to the A38 and act as the main access point for Sherford, on the eastern outskirts of Plymouth.

The new town, slated to occupy more 1,200 acres, is supposed to eventually house 12,000 residents.

The council's cabinet was set to approve proceeding with a formal competitive tender process on Wednesday morning to undertake construction of the road.

However, council leader John Hart announced at the start of the meeting that the item had been pulled from the agenda because of a "lack of agreement between us and the developers as to how the main street will proceed, so it would be wrong of us to proceed with this today".

The item was deferred until at least the next cabinet meeting, which would be in September.

Essex Police says it has found alternative accommodation for officers who were forced to spend last night on camp beds and gym mats in a sports hall and squash court without an adequate number of toilets or hot water.

Members of the Devon and Cornwall Police Federation vented their anger on social media earlier at overnight accommodation for the hundreds of additional officers involved in US President Donald Trump's visit.

Forces across the country have been asked to send officers to assist.

"I hope President Trump is treated to better accommodation than the officers from Devon & Cornwall who have been sent to protect him," they said in a tweet, external.

Two Devon and Cornwall Police officers will be recognised for their bravery at an awards ceremony in London this evening.

DCs Alison Brooks and Andrew Whittle have been nominated for a Police Bravery Award, external after they pulled a motorist from a burning car following a head-on collision near Tavistock.

The NSPCC has welcomed the jailing of a drama teacher from Devon who secretly filmed half naked schoolgirls as they got changed.

Mark Torley, 48, was jailed for 22 months at Exeter Crown Court on 11 July after he admitted voyeurism and taking an "upskirt" picture of a girl by putting his phone under her desk.

His behaviour was condemned as a gross invasion of privacy by the child welfare charity, which urged the victims to be given support to help them recover.

Torley left his phone in a props room at a school where girls stripped to their underwear to change into costumes.

Police also found indecent images on his computer of younger girls which he had downloaded on the internet.

Torley - formerly of Beatrice Avenue, Plymouth, and later living in the Republic of Ireland - admitted one count of taking an indecent image, five counts of voyeurism, and one count of downloading images from the internet.

The National Trust has applied for planning permission for a temporary set at one of its sites.

The charity has submitted a planning application for temporary timber structures to be used at West Wheal Owles engine house, at Botallack, St Just.

It said that the temporary structures would be in place for just six weeks while filming took place at the Grade II-listed engine house.

Two terrapins have been "humanely trapped" and removed from an east Devon nature reserve.

The creatures were part of a small colony of reptiles which had been living at Bystock Pools, near Exmouth, for more than 10 years.

According to Devon Wildlife Trust, external, the reptiles had been feasting on the lake’s insect larvae - including dragonflies and damselflies - and were also responsible for the disappearance of ducklings along with the chicks of other water birds.
