Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, external say a working smoke alarm almost certainly saved the life of a small child in Derby this lunchtime.
The father was outside washing his car when the alarm started to sound, he immediately ran upstairs to rescue the child from its cot.
Two crews tackled the fire on Nottingham Road, which has damaged the first floor.

Police have released CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to in connection with the theft of cards, cash, a phone and a white Peugeot 208, external from a house on Alvaston Street.
The theft happened on 1 November at about 06:50.
One of the stolen bank cards was used at a number of shops in Allenton and Alvaston later that morning.
Police want to speak to the man seen on the CCTV footage below.

Sir Dave Brailsford was giving evidence to MPs on the Commons Culture committee, which is investigating the fight against doping in sport.
He continues to defend Team Sky.

You read that right. And no, it didn't leave the chip pan on after getting back from the pub.
The pesky pooch climbed on top of a cooker in a Sandiacre kitchen, turning the electric hob on, firefighters believe.
It then knocked a bin over, which caught fire at about midnight on Saturday.

The man who died on the M1, near Trowell services, on Friday has been named as Vincent Nagle.
The 44-year-old, from Station Road, Borrowash died after colliding with a lorry on the motorway at about 11:30.

Nathan Paton, 22, who was injured at the house remains in the Queen’s Medical Centre, where he is receiving treatment for head injuries, believed to have been caused by a nail gun.

After drawing 2-2 at Fulham on Saturday, the Rams are next in action on the 27 December, against Birmingham.
After playing three matches in the last week, McClaren is glad of the breather.
