  3. Catthorpe Interchange link road openspublished at 17:46

    Thousands of commuters are expected to have smoother journeys when a new link road opens at the Catthorpe Interchange near Rugby later.

    Drivers who travel from the A14 to the M6 westbound will be able to use the new road. 

    The link road means drivers looking to connect to the M6 don't need to use the interchange roundabouts, removing a significant proportion of the traffic at the bottleneck. 

    The road will open overnight tonight, meaning drivers heading west on the A14 will use a newly built structure to pass beneath the M1 and on to the M6.

    There’s been an ongoing debate over the "I Heart Consent" workshops at the University of Warwick.

    Student George Lawlor said he felt insulted to be invited to the NUS classes aimed at combating sexual harassment and assault.

    He posted a picture of himself holding a sign saying: “This is not what a rapist looks like.”

    But Josie Throup, who delivers the workshops hit back: “But that's exactly what a rapist looks like - a normal member of society.”

  8. Nicola Payne murder trial: Court told man heard woman's screampublished at 16:43

    Birmingham Crown Court has been told that a man heard a woman scream minutes after Nicola Payne disappeared in Coventry 24 years ago.

    Richard Carter, who was walking his dog on 14 December 1991, also described seeing two men and a distinctive Blue Ford Capri, near to the waste ground where she was last seen alive. 

    Brothers-in-Law Nigel Barwell and Thomas O'Reilly, who are both 51, deny murder. Nicola Payne's body has never been found.

    Virgin's West Coast Mainline staff deal with 700 queries and comments on an average day, rising to as many as 3,000 when there is major disruption on the network.

    The operation is based near Birmingham's Bullring shopping centre and has two people on Twitter duty at all times between 07:00 and 22:00, aiming to deal with each inquiry within five minutes.

    The tweeters deal with customer queries and relay promotional material, but, unlike traditional corporate public relations staff, they have a degree of editorial independence.

    "We try to get our personalities across," says Luke Ferris, head of the Twitter team for Virgin West Coast. "If there's not much happening and we're not getting much interaction, we try to encourage a conversation with people."

    A book of condolence has also been opened for anyone wanting to pay their respects in the reception area of the council house. 

  11. Coventry artist Ghostpoet nominated for Mercury Prizepublished at 16:00

    Coventry University graduate, rapper Obaro Ejimiwe, aka Ghostpoet, has been nominated for this year's Mercury Prize for his second album Shedding Skin.

    It's his second Mercury-nomination after 2011's Peanut Butter Blues & Melancholy Jam lost out to PJ Harvey. 

    The winners will be announced on 20 November. 

  12. Regeneration of historic Coventrypublished at 15:29

    Councillors say exposing the River Sherbourne and regenerating the Burges area of the city , externalcentre will help restore features that date back to medieval times.

    Last year, an area of the Burges, Hales Street and Palmer Lane, was given protected status when a city centre conservation area was extended.

    The council says if funding is approved it would be used to help repair properties, restore old architecture and encourage development.
