On tonight’s Midlands Today, we meet the daughters of Joyce Bennett who describe the attack on their mother as "callous". 

The 78-year-old was at home in Halesowen last Wednesday evening when three men forced entry, external, held her to the floor, breaking her arm – and then stole cash and personal possessions.

Her daughters Helen and Claire told me their Mum had spent her working life as a carer helping others but now she’s the vulnerable one, facing a slow recovery and fears about how she’ll cope after this horrific attack.

A man is in a critical condition after being stabbed on a street in Chelmsley Wood this morning, police say.

Officers were called to Lime Grove just after 11.10 following reports that a 28-year-old man had suffered several stab wounds to the back.

Detectives have launched an investigation and believe a group of between three and five people may have been involved.

DI Jim Colclough, from the West Midlands force, said: “This happened in the middle of a street in broad daylight and we think there would have been a number of people in the area at the time."

The brother of US Masters champion Danny Willett says he's received one message from him in the past 24 hours saying "what's just happened?"

Pete Willett, a teacher in Solihull, spoke to BBC News saying it's been a "crazy week" for his brother.

Pete said: "Winning the Masters, he's a new dad and it's his wife's birthday. It's been a decent week for him. It's very surreal. The fact he's actually won - I would've never have predicted it."

Danny gave this interview to BBC Sport after becoming 2016 Masters champion.

Footage of a man being repeatedly kicked and punched at a petrol station forecourt has been released.

Two men have been arrested in connection with what police have called, external a "vicious attack" and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

The brother of English golfer Danny Willett who won the US Masters in Augusta says his brother's victory is "unbelievable".

Pete Willett shared the headlines with his brother after a series of tweets about their sibling rivalry. 

But Pete, a drama teacher at Grace Academy in Solihull, has also told BBC News of his delight.

Three Birmingham men have been jailed after an 18-year-old man was fatally stabbed at Coventry's Society nightclub last year in a row over a girl. 

Ramez Murtaza, 21, from Bordesley Green East, Bordesley Green, who had pleaded guilty to manslaughter, assault and violent disorder, was jailed for eight years at Warwick Crown Court.

Hasham Ali, 19, from Amberley Green, was sentenced to 29 months in a young offenders' institution and Ezra Scott, 22, from Hawksyard Road, Erdington, was jailed for 28 months. Both had admitted violent disorder over the attack that claimed the life of Coventry teenager Daniel Kirkwood. 

A fourth man, Tobijah Thompson, 25, of no fixed abode, was jailed for a minimum of 32 years for murder.

Detectives have released images of a woman, external they want to trace after Sutton Coldfield Library was flooded, causing a significant amount of damage.

The sinks in the disabled toilets were blocked using paper towels and the taps were left switched on during the incident on 19 March.

Staff at Aston Villa are being told today how relegation from the Premier League will affect their jobs. 

Villa will almost certainly drop into the Championship next weekend after suffering an eighth successive defeat on Saturday. It's estimated to cost the club millions of pounds.

Villa lost 2-1 to Bournemouth and that was the cue for many fans to leave and others to aim their protests at owner Randy Lerner.

Four hundred jobs are being created in Birmingham as a new software company opens its Midlands headquarters in the city. 

Advanced, external is the third largest software provider in the country and has more than 20,000 clients including Virgin Trains, Harvey Nichols and Birmingham Children's Hospital. 

The new offices are based in a 45,000 square foot unit in The Mailbox.

As Danny Willett becomes the first Briton in 20 years to win the Masters, it would be easy to assume he's now by far the most famous person in his family. His mum's a mathematician, his dad a vicar and he has three brothers with ordinary jobs.

But his older brother PJ, a teacher in Birmingham, is running Danny close, as his live-tweeting, external throughout the final round captured international attention. PJ joked, drank and swore through the closing stages with a mixture of fraternal fun-poking and unmistakable - if somewhat bemused - pride.

Network Rail says the cost to the industry of this morning's disruption will run into hundreds of thousands, external of pounds.

They say early indications are that "foul play" caused signalling failure and released pictures showing apparent attempts to burn and cut cables powering signals at Proof House junction, south of New Street station.

They're appealing for the public to come forward with any information.

There were hours of delays during Monday’s rush hour after a major power failure near Birmingham’s New Street Station.

Power was eventually restored just after 09:00, but it has created big problems across the West Midlands rail network.

A power outage at a signalling box in south Birmingham caused severe delays this morning on the railways. 

"We're really sorry to anyone impacted by this," said Network Rail, which spoke to BBC WM to explain the situation.
