We are now ending our live coverage of the stabbing at Thorpe St Andrew School.

Pupils were urged to hide underneath their desks and the site was locked down as the incident unfolded this morning.

Police were called at about 10:25 GMT and found a teenage student had suffered minor injuries.

They launched a manhunt for the suspect, who was found nearby and arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

He remains in police custody for questioning.

Sixteen-year-old Letizia was in a maths class when she heard the bell start to ring.

She said: "It continuously went and then my teacher got up and we barricaded the door.

"I thought at first it could be a drill, but then when we started locking everything and I saw the teachers walking through the corridors - [then] everyone started to panic a little bit."

She said she was not aware of what had happened until she saw the news.

"It's so upsetting something happened at school.

"We all feel safe here, it's a good school but this was very weird," she said.

Her dad, Leon, said he went down to the school when he heard an incident had happened. He said they were given an update once children had started "to disperse".

We have been told that the school closed a little later than planned, shutting at about 13:10.

Staff said earlier that any pupil unable to go home or be picked up would be held safely in the school hall.

Thorpe St Andrew School is about three miles (4.8km) east of Norwich.

The town had a population of more than 14,000 in 2011, according to Thorpe St Andrew Town Council.

The school is nestled among houses on Laundry Lane and according to the Department for Education has 1,834 pupils.

Owen Jenkins, chief executive officer at the Broad Horizons Education Trust which runs Thorpe St Andrew School, has released a statement.

"We have clear procedures in place and our staff acted swiftly," he said.

"One of our students was injured and is now being treated in hospital for minor injuries.

"This has obviously been a distressing experience for our whole community and our focus now is on making sure all students feel supported as we begin to understand what happened."

In an email to parents seen by the BBC, the school said it went into a "full lockdown" with children and teachers staying in their classrooms.

While one student was taken to hospital with minor injuries, it said "everyone else is safe".

It said: "The police have confirmed we can now come out of lockdown, and we are now focused on ensuring all children feel supported by staff. The school is closing at 13:00.

"For students that aren't able to leave at that time, we will hold them safely in the school hall."

Adam received a call from his eldest daughter and "headed straight down" to the school to see what was going on.

He has a daughter in Year 10 and a son in Year 11.

"I spoke to my son. He called me back and said they had been locked down in the classroom - I haven't heard from my daughter which is concerning."

He said it was a "good school" held in "high regard", which is why the family chose it.

Thorpe St Andrew secondary school near Norwich has 1,834 pupils, according to the Department for Education.

Children there are aged between 11 and 18, and it was rated good at its last Ofsted inspection in 2025.

Inspectors said: "Pupils value the changes the school has made to the culture and behaviour since the last inspection."

About 100 concerned parents have gathered outside the school. Genevieve, who says she is a trusted adult of a 17-year-old at the school, says she received a "flurry" of messages at 10:33 GMT.

She says an alarm bell had gone off and students were told to "hide under desks".

"They were all really frightened, all the blinds had been closed," says Genevieve.

"Even the teacher in her classroom is under the desks with them and they aren't leaving.

"The relief is I am getting the messages through and they are all together but I think we are all feeling a bit sick inside. We just want to have cuddles and know everyone is all right."

There is still an alarm that is going off constantly here.

When I arrived I drove past the Co-op where a number of police vehicles, including armed response vehicles, had been parked up outside the school.

The police have sealed off one of the entrances and you can see more vehicles down there.

Around the corner, I went to a different entrance to the school where a number of parents had gathered.

While I was there a member of the security staff at the school did tell parents: "Don't worry, everyone is now safe."

The school does remain in lockdown and it's unclear exactly when this will come to an end.

The Labour MP for Norwich North says the incident is both "incredibly serious and deeply alarming".

Posting on X, Alice MacDonald writes: "Immediately, we need to give the police time to ensure that everyone at the school is safe.

"My thoughts are with all of them and their families, especially the victim who has been taken to hospital.

"My office is trying to get the latest information to understand exactly what has happened. I will keep you updated as I learn anything."

Norfolk Police says it doesn't believe the stabbing is linked to a hate crime reported at the school last week.

Officers have been investigating reports of antisemitic chanting from spectators at a football match there on Thursday.

The match involved JFS, a Jewish school in Harrow, north London, and Thorpe St Andrew School.

In a letter to parents, the principal at the Norfolk school said antisemitic behaviour was "completely unacceptable" and a full investigation had been launched.

Multiple sources have contacted the BBC saying pupils were told to hide under their desks as the stabbing and subsequent emergency response unfolded.

Teachers also told the children to switch their phones off, they say.

Outside the school many parents, as you would expect, have gathered.

About 100 parents are gathered and many of them are clearly very concerned.

A short while ago, at one of the other entrances that I have been to, a member of the security team stepped out to tell parents that a lockdown is still in place but everyone is safe.

Parents commenting on a Facebook post from Norfolk Police say they have had limited information about what's going on.

Others are sharing concerns for the safety of their children.

The school is currently in lockdown conditions.

There is a "huge" police presence at the school, according to BBC camera operator Shaun Whitmore.

At the scene, he says: "We can't see armed police, but they are here."

"Police were called to a school on Laundry Lane, Thorpe St Andrew, at 10:24 GMT, this morning following reports that a teenage girl had been stabbed.

"Emergency services attended the scene including fire and ambulance. The victim has been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

"A 16-year-old boy has been arrested nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

"He has been taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

"This incident is not believed to be linked to a hate crime reported at the same school last week."
