Burkina Faso 'coup': Transitional government forced out

There has been a coup in the West African country of Burkina Faso.

A presidential guard spokesman announced on television that it had dissolved what it described as the deviant transitional government.

A member of the guard, General Gilbert Diendere, has been named as transitional leader.

All borders have been closed and a curfew imposed. The head of parliament has called on the army to intervene in order to stop the action of what he said was a small group of military men.
