Welsh NHS medical negligence claims on increase
The cost of medical negligence payouts by the NHS in Wales almost doubled over the past three years, rising by £18m.
Figures obtained by BBC Wales show the cost of failures such as botched operations cost taxpayers £38m in the 12 months to April 2012.
One case settled earlier this year was that of Kate Pierce, from Wrexham, who was left severely brain damaged when her meningitis was wrongly diagnosed as tonsillitis when she was nine months old.
Her father Mark Pierce told India Pollock what happened as a result.
