Ostrich conman Martin Evans 'was determined to make it'

A former mayor of Pontarddulais has spoken about his memories of a man who went on to become one of the UK's most notorious criminals.

Martin Evans, a fugitive conman, drug dealer and money launderer from Swansea, was extradited to the UK from South Africa last month.

But Dai Beynon, who remains a town councillor, said Mr Evans was a "nice man" who was "determined to make it".

He added Evans came from a lovely family.
