Drivers caught crossing flooded Mersea Island causeway

Drone footage has captured motorists crossing the Mersea Island causeway at high tide.

The footage, filmed by Craig Moorcroft, shows drivers of cars and lorries on The Strood - the road which connects the island with the mainland.

Despite repeated warnings, some motorists try their luck when the tide is high. The video captured the moment one car broke down in the middle of the causeway.

Emergency services are called out several times a year to help stranded drivers.
