Power cable explodes in shower of sparks in Hayle, Cornwall

Storm-force winds brought down an electricity cable - creating a "terrifying" series of bangs and showers of sparks.

People in Hayle, Cornwall were woken by the fireworks-like racket at about 03:00 GMT.

Blake Evans, who captured the dramatic moment on video, said there was a "strong smell of burning".

Engineers from Western Power made the area in Bodriggy Street safe and nobody was injured.
