Labour MP speaks out over rape and death threats

Labour MP Paula Sherriff has spoken out about the rape and death threats she has received since releasing a statement on Britain's so-called "youngest suicide bomber" earlier this month.

Ms Sherriff, the newly-elected MP for Dewsbury, said the abuse started when she "asked the community, external to unite" after local teen Talha Asmal detonated a car in Iraq as part of an Islamic State attack.

She told the Victoria Derbyshire programme: "My initial feelings were of shock", before she later felt afraid.

A 38-year-old man from the Newark area, arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill on 16 June, has been bailed by police.
