'Secure college' plans for young offenders revealed

Plans to build the first "secure college" for young criminals in England and Wales have been confirmed by ministers.

The college, to be built in Leicestershire, will house hundreds of young offenders and double the time they spend in education.

It is part of a strategy to re-educate and cut the high rate of reoffending by young offenders when they are released from prison.

Critics have described the plans as a "gimmick" and say the money would be better spent on community support.
