Saline nurse death case dropped

Prosecutors have dropped the case against 27-year-old Rebecca Leighton, who was charged with contaminating saline at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport.

Assistant Chief Constable Terry Sweeney from Greater Manchester Police told reporters that at the time, there had been 'sufficient evidence' to charge Rebecca in the view of the police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

He said the evidence against Ms Leighton had not built which resulted in the decision by the CPS to discontinue the investigation.
