How the flag of modern South Africa was designed

On April 27th 1994, millions voted in South Africa's first free and fair democratic elections.

With the new South Africa came a new flag - a symbol of its post-apartheid rebirth.

Fred Brownell was South Africa's "State Herald" at the time and was charged with designing the flag.

He spoke to BBC News about how it came about.
