Charity warns against asthma 'complacency'

People in the UK are dying from asthma unnecessarily because of complacency about the illness, a study suggests.

The National Review of Asthma Deaths found that in nearly half of asthma deaths studied, sufferers did not receive any medical help during their final attack.

Kay Boycott, from charity, Asthma UK, welcomed the report, telling BBC Radio 5 live's Breakfast that it was "crucial" to be vigilant and not complacent about the condition.

NHS England's national clinical director for respiratory services said the statistics were a "call to action" for commissioners, health professionals and patients.
