A line in Stooshe's bio describes them as 'Salt N' Pepa meet Odd Future' while the Guardian recently pegged the London trio as an 'X Rated En Vogue'. To some extent, Stooshe's beginnings (they formed in January 2011) resemble that of the usual girlband - two of the members were spotted and recruited in Topshop by a songwriting and stylist team.
But the similarities end there. All three members (Karis, Courtney and Alex) write their own material and have been whipping up a bit of a storm with their infectiously catchy, very sweary and distinctly British brand of urban pop. A support slot on a tour with N-Dubz and a free download (The Stoosh Tape) generated a lot of buzz and before long the trio were paired with producer Futurecut (Wretch 32, Lily Allen, Prof. Green, Plan B) and had landed a deal with Warners.
The video for their first single Betty Woz Gone (based on a true story, it's a sorry tale of a young mother more interested in a good time than looking after her kids) has currently racked up the best part of 200,000 views on Youtube. Expect to hear much much more of these young ladies (with a few bleeps here and there, perhaps).
