Basically this is dub.01 - and it's magnificent.

This is subtitled Killer Instrumentals From Studio One, and if one thing is endangered, it's the owner's speaker cones. Shorn of any sweet vocal input, these cuts (or 'versions' as they were originally called) let their gargantuan bass-lines do the talking. Basically this is dub.01 -and it's magnificent.
Most of the 18tracks featured here come from the late 1960s; concise beauties that rarely stray beyond two or three minutes. The names of the artists alone are an inspiration, who could not be excited by the likes of 'Sound Dimension' and 'Soul Agent and the Soul Defenders'?
The highlights are many, and within these early reggae sounds you can hear the essence of not only dub, but also modern dancehall and instrumental electronica. Like I said, magnificent...and seminal... and essential!
