Born in Georgia 1930 to a life of poverty, Ray Charles Robinson was raised by his mother. At age seven he tragically went blind but at school he learned to read music and play the piano. Ray would come to be known as one of the driving forces behind rhythm & blues' development, bringing a more soulful sound to the genre. Described as ''The only true genius in the business'' by Frank Sinatra, Ray would go on to receive many accolades.
His debut album was a compilation of his hit singles from the mid 50s. Released in 1957, Ray Charles self-titled album holds many of his most enduring classics.
