2005 seems to have been John Dahlbäck's year. It no exaggeration either to say the number of releases bearing the Swede's name is almost unnerving, especially when I tell you the man in question is still in his late-teens.
Dahlbäck's music is a sonic pastiche of lite techno, burbling electro and dream inducing house. With his artistic debut a slick and highly listenable oeuvre of rich textures, warm chords and electronic melodies that gel well, gliding freely without ever dipping in quality.
Whilst there are no obvious standouts, "Spring To Me", "Ooh Oh I E" and "Now It's Not Summer" are real growers. "Take Me Back" ranks as one of the best tracks Green Velvet never made and listening to "This Is Some Action" you can hear the DFA-esque punk-funk beats sneaking through.
Despite lacking the quirkiness of say a Green Velvet or the vocal dexterity of a Felix Da Housecat, which will come in time, Dahbäck is at the start of a very promising career.
