'Loosen Your Hold' was one of the best singles of 2003 but can South maintain that...

Aah, South! I love the first album, From Here On In.It went off in strange directions and the arrangements defied the norm.
Though moving more towards the mainstream, South's second album With The Tides remains as quirky as the first. But it has the added benefit of being consistently good and, honestly speaking, a little easier to come back to for repeat listens.
Tracks such as "Loosen Your Hold" and "Natural Disasters" have echoes of good Oasis but are more developed. "Nine Lives" and "Mend These Trends" are much more mellow and help to provide the contrast that perhaps the first album lacked.
Clever, catchy and a could-be classic given time. Shame about the cover art though.
