...a solid enough collection of slow jams, but one parading under a misnomer of a title.

Adam Webb2006

His Ray Charles impression might be honed to perfection but, for Jamie Foxx, the leap from movies to music is still one fraught with danger. Actors who've successfully made that move can be counted on one hand. Elsewhere, you're in Keanu Reeves or Russell Crowe territory.

Fortunately, with a host of A-list talent on board - including Kanye West, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige and Common -Unpredictable was always likely to be a more alluring prospect than a 30 Odd Foot of Grunts album. And so it proves. Pitching himself vocally between R Kelly and Alexander O' Neal, Foxx delivers a quality set of slick modern R'n'B.

But while West's contribution to "Extravaganza" is worthy of Foxx's cameo on "Gold Digger", the emphasis on same-paced baby-making ballads soon becomes dull. There's only so much foreplay that one album can handle, and the lack of variety ultimately proves fatal. This makes Unpredictable a solid enough collection of slow jams, but one parading under a misnomer of a title.
