The country superstar's first album since 2002's desperately commercial Cry sees her taking a more downhome turn; the prominence of the mandolins and steel, the 'I'm just Jenny from the block' style protestations in "Mississippi Girl" and even her new brunette look, for which she quite literally went back to her roots, ho ho.
She's one of those rare artists from whom you actually want to hear more power ballads, and here the duet with husband Tim McGraw "Like We Never Loved At All" is on a par with previous gems like "Breathe" and "There You'll Be".
But it's far from schmaltzy. The complex relationships featured in the three Lori McKenna songs, the light-hearted "Sunshine And Summertime" and the shotgun wedding humour of "Dearly Beloved" help make Fireflies one of the most enjoyable albums of Hill's 12 year career.
