Record label owner of 4Real records, Terry Scully, states that Nottingham singer Zeena Gulzar's first album is "about a natural singing talent, experienced writers/producers - coming together hoping to create a bit of pop magic".
The album is produced by Porl Young, club DJ of London's Heaven nightclub. But the production somehow sounds dated: title track "Do I", is a smooth poppy ballad along the lines of All Saint's "Pure Shores", and songs veer between sounding like M People and house tracks of the 90s.
Zeena's got a great voice similar to Sharleen Spiteri, but to give her an edge she needs a more current sound with less synths and more real instruments. Perhaps she needs to take more control over her material, in future for her to truly stand out.
