I really, really did not want to be disappointed by DPT - after all, we've heard so much about Carl Barat's new band, and after the demise of the Libertines I did feel very bereft. And Carl is just about the most gorgeous front man (in my humble opinion) to grace the front cover of the music mags in quite some time.
So as a result of all that, maybe my expectations were a bit too high. Carl looks as babelicious as ever, sporting a Union Jack sling and chain smoking as usual, but the first 20 minutes of their set is a bit lacklustre. DPT are missing that glorious messiness that we all loved the Libertines for. Perhaps I am being a bit judgemental - after all, maybe it's time Carl is able to move on from the past. But I need good low down dirty laddish drinking songs, and I didn't get enough of those!
I've come to the conclusion that the main stage this afternoon could be more about reputation than substance - I do hope I'm proved wrong later on tonight.
