Music Life

Musical Pet Hates - with Alex Cameron, Rebecca Lucy Taylor, Maisie Peters, and Rakel Mjoll.
This week, British artist Rebecca Lucy Taylor - aka Self Esteem - and formerly of duo Slow Club, hosts an episode which brings together the best in pop and alternative: First up, a singer born and raised in Sydney and described as creating 'Australian sleaze pop'.
He apparently is used to dressing up as an old man, and his most recent record is a love letter to his partner and a musing on masculinity… it’s Alex Cameron.
Also joining the group is a 19 year-old singer songwriter from Brighton, in the south of England, who started writing songs aged 12 and cites the likes of Taylor Swift, Lily Allen, First Aid Kit, Kacey Musgraves, and Kanye West among her biggest influences. She gained fame after releasing recordings of herself on Youtube, and the internet has decreed that she is making the 'best observational pop of 2019' - it’s Maisie Peters.
And finally, a former art-school student and singer from Iceland who grew up in California. She started the band Dream Wife, a project which tackles subjects such as body image, gender roles, and the various faces of womanhood - it’s Rakel Mjoll.
Led by Rebecca, they’ll be discussing honesty in lyrics, musical pet hates, getting your hair caught in a violin, and trying to determine what’s cool.
In part two of Music Life, Rakel Mjoll of Dream Wife will be taking you through a brilliant playlist she’s entitled Getting Over A Cold. Very appropriate for this time of year, expect songs from the likes of Prince, Lana Del Rey, and Ólafur Arnalds.
