The Baby Has Landed

Ep. 1/4 -

This joyful and poignant new documentary series lifts the lid on one of the most intense and extraordinary times in any family’s life - the arrival of a new baby.

Following six families over their first laughter, love and chaos-filled weeks of parenthood, the series provides a window into family life in 2019.

This episode introduces the first set of expectant families, including first-time parents Syler and Mo Nicholson-Bayoumi from Nottinghamshire. In their 20s, they live in Syler’s mum Sara’s house, together with her Dad Tony and her Grandad Pat. The arrival of their new baby will see four generations living under one roof.

Meanwhile, Helen and Nigel Pierce are trying to get their four children Emily (five), Edward (four), Charlotte (three) and Rebecca (18 months) out of the door so Helen can go to hospital to be induced and give birth to her fifth child. Old hands at labour, Helen and Nigel pass the time doing a crossword as her contractions grow stronger.

In Bedfordshire, Hermisha Nkrumah and her husband Shabazz are expecting a baby girl, a sister to their two boys Elijah (seven) and Ezrah (five). Being overdue has made Hermisha emotional, and when she finds herself in tears her sons comfort her.

In West Sussex, married couple Paul and Craig Saunders are preparing for the arrival of their twin girls. They always wanted to be parents, and have found a surrogate - their workmate, Mel - who is now pregnant with the men’s biological children.
