The First Time with St Vincent

American singer-songwriter Anne Erin Clark, aka St Vincent, tells Matt about her pivotal musical firsts.
In 2015 she won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album for her fourth album - the eponymous St. Vincent. She was the first solo female performer in 20 years to win a Grammy in that category. Her fifth - and latest - album, Masseduction, was released in 2017 and debuted at Number 10 on the Billboard 200, becoming her first album to peak in the Top 10 of the chart. From a stint with the Polyphonic Spree to collaborations with David Byrne and performances inspired by Pina Bausch, St Vincent’s constant innovations and guitar heroics make her an ever-intriguing live act.
For this series of The First Time, Matt Everitt will be speaking to artists and musicians including Tracey Thorn and Roger Daltrey. Last week’s episode with Janelle Monae is now available to listen to on BBC iPlayer.
