Refugee Stories

CBeebies Radio presents four stories based on the real life experiences of refugee families and told from the perspectives of young children.

Written by Janye Kirkham (Bing, Tee and Mo) and narrated by John Pfumojena (The Jungle at the Young Vic), the stories will be broadcast to coincide with Refugee Week. The stories focus on hope, belonging and new beginnings.

The Ravinator And His Dad (pictured) is about a little boy called Ravi and his family who flee Syria and travel to stay with his grandpa in neighbouring Jordan. Ravi uses his imagination and his love of superheroes to find the strength to adapt to new challenges.

In The Sparkle, Birhan’s mum tells her about the journey they took to find a safe place to live after leaving everything behind in Ethiopia. Birhan’s everlasting sparkle has never disappeared and she finds a way to use it to help others.

Farah’s First Day is about how Farah, a refugee from Afghanistan, settles into her new home and overcomes her fears of starting school.

Rose’s Refugees is about twin sisters Rose and Dulcie and their grandma, who help a Syrian family feel welcome.
