Women At War - 100 Years Of Service

BBC One daytime will be celebrating the pioneering women who, for over a century, have served Britain and carried out military duties across the globe.
The five-part series, Women at War: 100 Years of Service, will be stripped across a week and will remember the inspiring individuals who put their lives on the line defending their country.
In the summer of 1917 Britain’s first all-female military unit was founded: The Women’s Army Auxiliary Corp. Now, for the first time in history, British service women are being trained for close combat roles in the Military.
Each day, the story of women at war will be told through the eyes of well-known faces who each have a personal connection with the armed forces. June Brown, Dame Kelly Holmes, Pam Ayres, Edward Fox and Nicky Campbell will be delving into their own experiences and looking at the impact these pioneers have had on our history.
The series will also celebrate the many women who worked as volunteers and in support roles that the military relied upon, from Land Girls to munitions factory workers.
The 5 x 45’ series will be stripped across a week on BBC One mornings with an hour long special to also be broadcast on Remembrance Sunday. It is a BBC Studios production and was commissioned by Dan McGolpin, Controller BBC Programming & Daytime and Carla-Maria Lawson, Commissioning Editor for Programming and Daytime. It will be executive produced by Rob Unsworth for BBC Studios.
