Welcome To Edinburgh

Kirsty Wark celebrates the best of this year’s Edinburgh Festival, now in its 70th year, looking at how the idealism and bravura of the original 1947 festival lives on today.

Kirsty meets the world renowned sitar player Anoushka Shankar, whose latest album Land Of Gold is a personal response to the international refugee crisis; she discovers two extraordinary transgender stories at the National Theatre of Scotland’s world premieres of Adam and Eve, performed by actors who tell their own real-life stories; and she discusses the importance of speaking out with the acclaimed American novelist Paul Auster, now also in his 70th year.
