PJ Harvey: In Her Own Words
Ahead of PJ Harvey’s headline set at Green Man Festival this evening, BBC Radio 6 Music offers an intimate portrayal of the enigmatic artist through her own words from interviews recorded with the BBC across her career.
Hailed as the world’s best songwriter by Rolling Stone on the release of her first album Dry in 1992, PJ Harvey is the only artist to have won the Mercury Prize twice. She released her ninth album, The Hope Six Demolition Project, last year and was awarded an MBE for her services to music in 2013.
PJ Harvey has long maintained an aura of mystery around her work and little is known about her personal life, with the Dorset-based musician preferring to let her music and art do the talking.
6 Music offers a rare glimpse into the artist's world, from her formative years growing up on a farm listening to blues to meeting her lifelong friend and collaborator John Parish, sharing her love of Captain Beefheart with John Peel, to the songwriting processes and inspirations behind her music.
Listeners can hear PJ Harvey’s live headline set on Tom Ravenscroft’s 6 Music Show this evening, as he broadcasts live from Green Man Festival from 8pm to midnight.
