World Athletics Championships 2017

Gabby Logan kicks off 10 days of athletics, as London hosts the World Athletics Championships - its biggest event since the glorious success of the 2012 Olympic Games.

In the first part of the evening, an opening ceremony will begin proceedings as this is the first time a city in the UK has hosted the event in the competition’s 34 year history.

The highlight of tonight’s schedule will see Britain’s finest-ever distance runner Mo Farah go for another gold in the men’s 10,000 metres.
The event promises to provide a send-off to Usain Bolt, as the eight-time Olympic champion looks to sign off in his last major event by adding to 11 world championship gold medals.

Coverage continues on BBC One at 1900 with expert analysis provided by eight-time world champion Michael Johnson. The commentary team is led by 1500m world gold medallist Steve Cram along with marathon world record holder Paula Radcliffe, Olympic heptathlon champion Denise Lewis, double 110m hurdles world champion Colin Jackson, former javelin world record holder Steve Backley, Brendan Foster and Andrew Cotter.
