First Night Of The Proms

The First Night of the Proms, broadcast from London's Royal Albert Hall.

The First Night of the Proms continues with Harmonium, a dazzling choral work from American music titan John Adams, who celebrates his 70th birthday this year. Setting poetry by John Donne and Emily Dickinson, this thrilling work is performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Chorus and the BBC Proms Youth Choir, conducted by Edward Gardner.

Before the performance presenter Katie Derham looks forward to the upcoming Proms season with some special guests, and we go behind the scenes with members of the BBC Proms Youth Choir Academy.
