US Election 2016 - Live from Times Square

In four weeks the United States of America will have a new president elect, a leader who will set the tone of the country’s relationship with the world for many years to come.

On US Election night - 8 November - BBC News will be reporting the race to the White House as it unfolds on BBC One, the BBC News Channel, BBC Radio 4 and BBC 5 Live, BBC World News, BBC World Service and online.

Andrew Neil and Katty Kay will present live coverage from a studio overlooking Times Square, New York. Andrew and Katty will be joined by Democratic and Republican election analysts to discuss the results as they come in. Emily Maitlis will be there to keep track of the races in key states on a giant touchscreen as the votes are counted and Jeremy Vine will be analysing the exit polls with his usual eye catching virtual reality graphics.

BBC correspondents will be based at the key swing states to bring audiences the news from those election battlegrounds, while Jon Sopel and Laura Trevelyan will be reporting from within the Democratic and Republican party camps.

In addition, other TV outlets will be covering the final stages of the campaign including BBC News at Ten which has a series of special reports from the US for the final week (from 31 October) while Emily Maitlis continues on the candidates campaign trail for Newsnight.

On radio, special overnight coverage will run on BBC Radio 4, BBC 5Live and BBC World Service from 10pm to 6am (10am on BBC World Service).

Presenters James Naughtie, Shaimaa Khalil, Philippa Thomas and Tim Franks will tell the story of the night's results in a fast-paced programme hearing from a wide array of voices from across the States including voters, American public radio journalists as well as political insiders and studio experts, as well as global reaction to the new presidency across races, genders and faiths. From 6am coverage will then roll through into the Today Programme and 5Live Breakfast.

BBC News online will have videos and graphics with key information, in-depth analysis from our expert correspondents and essential explainers on all the key issues including setting out the candidates’ positions, host guides to the key states, and how the electoral college results are calculated.

What more political surprises could be in store for 2016?

US 2016: Election Night In America is on BBC One, BBC News, BBC World News, BBC World Service, BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 5Live throughout the night on 8 November until BBC Breakfast.
