Street Auction

One Street, one extraordinary person and one huge sale. Paul Martin, with the help of experts Danny Sebastian, Irina Aggrey and Tim Weeks, will raise cash for a neighbour or friend who has helped others.

It’s payback time for the unsung hero, as Paul and his team scour the area for donations to sell at his pop up auction right in the very street where they live.

The idea is to keep it a secret from them but will Paul and his team get rumbled?

Paul knocks on doors of friends and neighbours to tell them about the auction and he is invited in to rummage in garages and garden sheds to look for donations - anything from bikes to 18th century buttons.

Will the team reach their donation target? All will be revealed on the street as Paul auctions off the items and then steps down off of his rostrum to surprise the unsuspecting recipient.

Monday - Thatcham
Neighbours turn out to surprise 91 year-old Joyce Lovelock, who has been collecting for the British Legion Poppies appeal for 55 years. Joyce became determined to help service personnel after her father’s experiences in the trenches in WWI. Not only that, but Joyce helps out her ‘elderly’ neighbours by doing their shopping and errands when they can’t manage it.

Presenters Paul Martin and Irina Aggrey want to raise enough money to treat Joyce and her close-knit family to a VIP day out at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.

The people of Thatcham, Berkshire, rally round and donate items - including an antique clock and earrings set with real diamonds, sapphires and rubies - to be sold at a Street Auction next to where Joyce lives.

Everyone wants to help - even Joyce - who doesn’t know all the fund-raising is for her.

Tuesday - Swansea
Last year, just two days before Christmas, Chris James lost his battle with a brain tumour, leaving behind his partner Sarah and their two young children.

Since then Sarah has thrown herself into raising funds for brain tumour research, while caring for her children. Her friends and neighbours want to help her after the tragedy, so when Street Auction came knocking, they were only too pleased to donate items to be sold to raise funds.
Paul Martin and Irina Aggrey take to the streets of Swansea to collect donated items to sell at a Street Auction. Their mission is to raise enough money to help finish off the family’s garden - a job Chris had started before he became terminally ill.

Wednesday - Beaminster
Forestry worker, Rob Holt, is well known around Dorset through his work, delivering logs, and helping out in the local community. Last year an ash tree crashed down on him, pinning him to the ground and almost killing him. Emergency services - including his best mate Carl, a retained fireman - had to cut his arm off at the scene.

Since the life-changing accident, Rob has had to adjust to using a hook attachment, which, coupled with medical complications, has made work difficult.

Presenters Paul Martin and Danny Sebastian set out to help him by collecting unwanted items donated by neighbours and selling them at a Street Auction near Rob’s home. Money raised is going towards a life-like cosmetic hand which will make Rob look and feel more comfortable.

Thursday - Calne
Father-of-two Jim Sutton was medically discharged from the RAF after suffering a ruptured artery to his brain. While receiving treatment at a military rehabilitation centre Jim realised that by helping others he could help himself.

Now he spends his days helping the young and old, and former military personnel, as a volunteer in the town of Calne where he lives.

In this programme, presenters Paul Martin and Danny Sebastian scour Jim’s neighbourhood collecting unwanted items to sell at a Street Auction - without letting Jim know the fundraising is all for him.

They hope to raise enough money to send help fulfil Jim’s ambition of visiting the grave of his hero, his uncle Fred, a former test-pilot who died while on a manoeuvre in Canada.

Friday - Rogiet
Neighbours Ilona Watson and Fay Baxter started a community café to help bring their village of Rogiet, in South Wales together. The cafe is now a lifeline of the village.

On top of the hours the women put in at the café, they both have their own challenges at home. Ilona’s husband, has been left severely disabled following a fall and Fay cares for her elderly mother who has advanced dementia. But, through it all, the women manage to stay positive and cheerful.

Presenters Paul Martin and Tim Weeks set out to give the two unsuspecting women a well-earned break, and some much needed equipment for the community café. Friends and family rally round to donate what they can for the auction, and among the items donated are a large ceramic elephant and a collector’s model car.
