Stop/Start

Ep. 1/1 -

After successful runs on Radio 4, Jack Docherty’s sharp sitcom about three marriages in various stages of disrepair makes its television debut as part of the BBC Comedy Playhouse series.

Featuring a stellar cast, Stop/Start is a warm and smart comedy in which the characters are able to stop the action, explain themselves to the audience and start it all up again. It revolves around the stories of three couples: Rob (Jack Docherty) and Cathy (Kerry Godliman) have been married for ages and it shows; Evan (John Thomson) and Fiona (Sarah Hadland) seem to be living in one big, noisy argument, punctuated by unexpected moments of passion; and 60-something David (Nigel Havers) and Georgy (Laura Aikman) who’s in her 30s, each have nagging feeling that the age gap could be a bit of a stretch for their relationship.

Rob is coy about telling Cathy that Georgy, who has just moved into the neighbourhood with David, is part of his past. And when he’s called on to make a short speech at his own house party, hapless Rob is in danger of talking himself into another tight corner.
