Friday Night Is BBC Music Night

The inaugural BBC Music Day - a celebration of music with events and concerts taking place in towns and cities across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales - culminates in a live gala Friday Night Is Music Night concert from Glasgow’s City Halls presented by Katie Derham and Ken Bruce. The show will be simulcast live on Radio 2, Radio 3 and Radio Scotland, with Jaz Dhami’s performance being simulcast on the Asian Network.

For the concert, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra will be joined by an exciting cross-genre line-up of artists including tenor Noah Stewart, violinist Jack Liebeck, pop legends Lulu and Deacon Blue, Bhangra artist Jaz Dhami, Scottish folk star Claire Hastings, harpist Catrin Finch, and Radio 2 presenter and jazz pianist Jamie Cullum. They will all perform music - from classical and famous film scores to jazz and rock – under the direction of conductor Richard Balcombe.

In the interval, Radio 3 will hear Katie Derham talking to some of the artists taking part in this special gala concert and reflect on the day’s highlights on Radio 3, from the BBC Singers singing on Hadrian's Wall to the world record attempt for the longest-distance duet between Cardiff and Patagonia. While on Radio 2 Ken Bruce will link to Pacific Quay for more live music from Lulu and her band.
