A supertanker of a project

The BBC has been collaborating with many national and local organisations to help tell the stories of the war.

The BBC’s relationship with Imperial War Museums is particularly significant.

IWM is an unrivalled resource for knowledge of the Great War and the BBC has had a researcher working day in, day out trawling Imperial War Museums incredibly rich archive and digging deep into their materials to unearth original, moving stories about people and their experiences of the war.

To provide further ballast the BBC teamed up with respected academics, found through the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), who have brought academic rigour and invaluable grassroots knowledge to World War One At Home as they double check the facts and expand on the evidence. On top of that many local organisations throughout the UK – experts, libraries, museums, historical societies – have been incredibly generous with inspiration, support and documentation.

Head of Programmes, BBC English Regions, Craig Henderson, says: “World War One at Home has been described as a ‘supertanker’ of a project, and that just about sums it up!”
