Me and Nick are a bit like brother and sister – he’s always phoning me and asking for advice. I’m always telling him to bugger off! We get on brilliantly so it’s just really nice coming to work when you’re good mates with people. You don’t always get that lucky.

What’s so special about Uncle?

I find it really touching. I like fact that it’s funny but it’s got real heart. It’s funny and warm – and also a little bit dark. I like all those things - warmth, humour and a little bit of darkness, and it’s got a lovely balance of those three, which the writers are really clever at achieving.

Tell us about Sam.

I like Sam. She’s ballsy, quite often unapologetic, good fun. And she wears clothes that I like! She’s been through a lot and come out fighting and is now a good mum and really getting her life back together. She’s managed to make a success of herself, despite the challenges she faced in the past.

What are Uncle’s stand-out moments for you?

To be honest, the thing I remember most is that last year I did it all with a five week old baby, whist breast feeding. So that’s just a blur. I thought, “nothing will ever be hard again!”. I still managed to enjoy myself which is testament to the show - and the cast, crucially. In terms of stand-out moments I’ve enjoyed all of it and this year’s been amazing. We just get on really well – and I know everyone says that – but it is genuine. Me and Nick are a bit like brother and sister – he’s always phoning me and asking for advice. I’m always telling him to bugger off! We get on brilliantly so it’s just really nice coming to work when you’re good mates with people. You don’t always get that lucky.

How have things changed between Sam and Errol?

He’s struggling a little bit to come to terms with Sam’s relationship with Bruce, and so it’s those negotiations, and watching your boy grow up. And there are challenges for Sam too, so we grow closer through him having to be more vulnerable and more loving because he’s worried about her.

Sam and Bruce are now an item. Is it all going well?

Yes. They’re not without their ups and downs, but they’re getting on great! We see them as they are discussing whether to have a baby but basically, they are pretty strong. I don’t want to give too much away, but Sam has a lot to cope with. We’re left wondering whether she’ll be able to come back fighting as she has in the past and she does some bad things.

Is there a happily ever after for the Uncle family?

It’s not a schmaltzy show and happily ever after isn’t like a fairy tale, it’s a bit more real. It’s the kind of happily ever after you’d expect for Uncle.
