Rio 2016 on the BBC - Digital

BBC Sport’s digital Olympics service will bring every event live from Brazil, with a 24-hour a day personalised service making the action available wherever, whenever and however fans want it.

Fans will never miss a moment of the action with up to 24 live HD video streams, comprehensive news and in-depth analysis from the Games, a live updating medal table and a catch-up video service across the BBC Sport website, mobile and connected TV apps.

The BBC’s digital Olympics service features:

  • All the action live: Up to 24 live HD video streams available online, mobile, desktop and on connected TVs via Red Button+. Up to eight live streams will also be available via BBC Red Button. Follow daily in-depth live text pages featuring in-Games video clips and the best of social media alongside expert analysis, and the latest news from Rio for up to 20 hours a day.
  • A personalised Olympics service: Up-to-date action as it happens with sports news and medal alerts, and the event reminder service in the BBC Sport mobile app. All the news on the nations and sports that matter most in one place using the ‘My Sport’ section of our website and app.
  • Catch up 24 hours a day: Full-length replays and on-demand highlight clips of all the action will be available via the BBC Sport website and app. The Olympic Playlist from BBC iPlayer will be available for download every morning throughout the Games and every Olympic programme broadcast on BBC television will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
  • Follow BBC Sport on social media: Follow the Games with exclusive behind-the-scenes access via BBC Sport’s social media accounts across a range of platforms including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google+ and Instagram.

BBC Sport live on digital

Up to 24 live HD video streams available across the BBC Sport website, BBC Sport App and Red Button+ - accessible via desktop, mobile, tablet and connected televisions - will ensure that audiences have the ability to watch all the action as it happens live in Rio.

The BBC’s live coverage will be faster than ever before, and the best place to keep up to speed with every event as they happen throughout the Games for up to 20 hours a day. The latest video highlights will complement live text updates, the best of social media, news and analysis from BBC Sport experts and pundits.

In partnership with the World Service, live reporting of the Olympics will also be available via BBC Russian and BBC Brasil (in Portuguese).

The BBC Sport website will offer a complete online Olympics experience tailored to audiences and providing the latest Rio 2016 news, in-depth analysis, live coverage and catch-up service.

There will also be a full medal table updated in real time, as well as comprehensive results and schedules for every event throughout the Games.

Olympic fans can look forward to a weekly news digest in the build-up to the Games and BBC Sport’s world-class journalists providing online features from the venues and fan parks across Brazil.

Our video pages have been updated to make it easier for audiences to catch up on all the action, on whatever devices they choose, however, wherever and whenever they like.

BBC Sport App
Users of the BBC Sport app will be able to add ‘Rio 2016’ and their favourite Olympic sport to their My Sport page, placing their Olympic interests alongside their current selections.

Notifications and reminders will also ensure that fans don’t miss the latest news, or forget their favourite event. Reminders include:

  • Live reminders for over 100 events taking place every day
  • Gold, silver and bronze medal alerts for all countries participating in the Rio Olympics
  • Sports News Alerts will ensure sport fans don’t miss breaking news stories and key highlights from across Brazil

Catch up - wherever, whenever, however

With the Games taking place nearly 6,000 miles away, BBC Sport’s catch-up service will transcend time zones and make sure audiences will be able to watch the action they missed live.

Special catch-up programmes will also be available daily including the Olympic Playlist, a show made available every morning throughout the Games from 6am, highlighting the action from the previous 24 hours and available to download on BBC iPlayer. Every Olympic programme broadcast on BBC television will also be available on BBC iPlayer.

Viewers watching live programmes on BBC iPlayer will also be able to make use of Live Restart, allowing them to watch Olympics shows from the the beginning.

On demand highlights clips and full-length replays of the best of the action from our 24 live HD video streams will also be available via BBC Sport’s website and apps.
