Last Night of the Proms

Marin Alsop returns to the podium after her triumphant Last Night debut in 2013 to lead the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Singers and BBC Symphony Chorus in the world-famous finale of the festival (12 September)

Launching the Last Night celebrations is the world premiere of Arise, Athena!, BBC commission by Eleanor Alberga, and the 120th anniversary of the Proms is marked by the performance of ‘Morning’ from Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, which appeared in the first ever Last Night in 1895

Audiences across the country will join the Royal Albert Hall for two rousing singalongs in a UK-wide celebration of music, with ‘I Bought Me a Cat’ (one of Aaron Copland’s Old American Songs) and The Sound of Music medley, before the traditional Last Night favourites – Rule, Britannia!, Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem – bring the celebrations to a close Last Night across the UK

The Last Night of the Proms radiates out from the Royal Albert Hall to embrace all four nations of the UK on Saturday 12 September, with Last Night events in Hyde Park, London, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. After performing on stage at Hyde Park, soprano Danielle de Niese dashes from the festivities to the Royal Albert Hall where she leads the four nations in the special joined-up singalong

All four nations will come together with special joined-up moments, singing together, with all locations having their moment in the spotlight. The United Kingdom in unison like never before
