Performing Groups

The BBC Symphony Orchestra gives 12 Proms, including the First Night with Sir Andrew Davis and, presided over for the first time by Chief Conductor Sakari Oramo, the Last Night celebrations. Other highlights include Stravinsky’s Oedipus rex with Sakari Oramo (7 August) and Strauss’s Elektra under Semyon Bychkov, the orchestra’s Günter Wand Conducting Chair (31 August)

The BBC Singers give six Proms including Strauss’s Elektra (31 August) and Deutsche Motette (31 July), Steve Reich’s The Desert Music (13 August) and the Last Night (13 September)

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra gives four Proms including Mozart’s Requiem (3 August) and performances of Vaughan Williams’s Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis and Mahler’s Symphony No 9, 100 years to the day that Great Britain declared war on Germany (4 August) both under Chief Conductor Donald Runnicles

The BBC National Orchestra of Wales gives four Proms including the orchestral version of Duruflé’s Requiem conducted by Thierry Fischer (27 July) and two concerts with Principal Conductor Thomas Søndergård (11 and 12 August)

The BBC Concert Orchestra gives four Proms including the first ever BBC Sport Prom (20 July), the Pet Shop Boys Late Night Prom (23 July), the first collaboration with the National Theatre in the War Horse Prom (3 August) and an all-American programme featuring a UK premiere from Chris Brubeck conducted by the orchestra’s Principal Conductor, Keith Lockhart (9 September)
