The Last Night

Jirí Belohlávek leads this year’s festivities in his final appearance as Chief Conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, with star soloists violinist Nicola Benedetti and tenor Joseph Calleja.

Opening with the world premiere of Mark Simpson’s sparks, the Last Night programme includes music by some of the season’s featured composers, including Delius and Bruch, before closing with the traditional Last Night pieces, which this year include the return of Henry Wood’s Fantasia on British Sea-Songs.

The Last Night of the Proms is celebrated beyond the Royal Albert Hall in all four nations of the UK. Each BBC Proms in the Park event has its own popular line-up of artists and presenters, and culminates in a live link-up with the Royal Albert Hall for the second half of the concert, transmitted on BBC One.

Tenor Alfie Boe and the Royal Choral Society will perform at BBC Proms in the Park, Hyde Park, alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra and conductor Richard Balcombe. An array of acclaimed artists, including Björn Again and the Gypsy Queens, will also take part (more artists will be announced in due course). The Hyde Park event is broadcast live on BBC Radio 2.

Details of the other BBC Proms in the Park events across the UK will be announced shortly.

Highlights of the Last Night celebrations around the country will be included as part of the live coverage on BBC One, BBC Two and BBC Radio 3, while digital TV viewers can choose to watch the Royal Albert Hall.
